In the moments leading up to today's wild card playoff game vs. the N.Y. J-E-T-S, I propose you take a few moments to reflect on 2009, the year of the Bengal. Before I continue on this notion, however, I must qualify that what I am about to say is said as a follower of the Bengals, not a full fledged fan...so take it for what it is worth.
As hard as it has been to watch the Bengals in a few games this season, i.e. the home opener vs. Denver, the Oakland match-down, and more recently and possibly the worst, the N.Y. J-E-T-S game in East Rutherford, Bengal fanatics can take solace in one most important fact...THE BENGALS WE'RE HBO'S
HARD KNOCKS POSTER CHILD AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. With a dismal record of 4-11-1, they had every reason to come out stinking it up again this year. Instead, all they have done is win when it really mattered. By that I mean, sweeping the AFC North Division. Additionally, they have had a myriad of season ending injuries to key veterans, as well as the untimely death of Chris Henry to deal with. Right or wrong, who cares, or if your indifferent to this, the fact that the Bengals were able to make the playoffs to begin with is sensational.
Win or lose today, oh ye Bengal faithful and I understand that losing would be unacceptable and heinous, but win or lose, you have a great deal to take pride in with the effort that the Hard Knock Kids have put forth this year.
Which would you prefer 4-11-1 or 10-6 + at least one playoff game and the inside fuzzy feeling that is possible by thinking that the dreaded Steelers are golfing.
